The OilGuard is a patented, NSF certified, product that is being used by restaurants and chains worldwide to help reduce accidents caused by deep fryers.

Employees receive splash back from the fryer caused by:

  • Frozen or wet product reacting explosively with the fryer oil
  • Missing the hanging hook causing huge oil splash back
  • Basket shakes to separate food

Front line workers are starting to post their fryer splash burns and slip & fall accidents on social media sites

Hands and Arms Splash Burns

Oil splashing over the handle due to frozen or wet product entering the fryer oil is very common and go largely unreported due to the fact that they are treated on site. OilGuards are being used in restaurants around the world to help reduce these accidents.
Someone told me to post it here. For context, I was deep-frying, and then suddenly the hot oil pops and splashed in my hand.
“I mean I missed the hanging hook and created an oil tsunami. I’m lucky this is the only injury I received.”
Oil splash at work 4 years ago. Yeah. It hurt. I can still see the faint scar from the largest burn. I remember I was frying wonton chips. Ouch. #fryerburn #oilburn #memories #timehop #literallyscarredforlife #ouch

Fryer Oil Splatter Burns Can Leave Long Lasting Scars
Accidents with the fryer happen when you get busy. I was lowering wet product into the fryer and it caused oil to splash back at me. This was 10 years ago!

Problems With Non-slip Shoes

We highly recommend wearing non-slip shoes in the kitchen. Period. There is absolutely no question that non-slip shoes are far more effective than normal shoes but front line restaurant workers are still experiencing dangerous ’Slip & Falls’ when wearing non-slip shoes especially when oil accumulates on the floor or on the sole of the shoe. Stopping any unnecessary oil from the fryer reaching the floor is one of the important benefits of The OilGuards which can increase the safety effectiveness of non-slip shoes.

Problems With Non-reported Injuries

There are so many kitchen accidents that go largely unreported resulting in inaccurate accident rate numbers. Some reasons are that front line restaurant workers are too busy to report them or they simply don’t want to complain out of pride or concern of letting down the crew by slowing down operations. OilGuards are an extremely important and inexpensive safety product that can help protect front line restaurant workers from dangerous and preventable accidents.
